High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)

Hypertension, also known as high blood pressure, is a condition whereby the blood is pumped around the body at a pressure that is higher than normal. Two numbers are used to describe blood pressure (BP), for instance:

If your systolic BP is 140mmHg or more, or your diastolic BP is 90mmHg or more, you may have high blood pressure.

How can I screen for hypertension?

It is advised that you check your blood pressure readings once every two years to screen for hypertension. When you visit your doctor for any condition, he or she will be able to take your blood pressure at least once.
